| Certifications and Program Overview |
|
Students will upgrade their skills and knowledge for employment in any type of work environment or as an entrepreneur. Students will improve their computer skills as well as their soft skills. Students will attend classes for 9 weeks at Durham Continuing Education. During the in-class portion of the course students will:
- Develop their accounting, marketing and entrepreneurial skills and abilities
- Develop their customer service expertise and improve their employability skills
- Earn 2 credits towards an Ontario Secondary School Diploma
- Improve their computer skills in Office 365, Google Suite and QuickBooks
- Improve their social media skills
- Add to their certifications and job readiness skills
Students will earn the following certifications:
- First Aid/CPR
- WHMIS Awareness Training

Students will upgrade their skills and knowledge for employment in the hospitality industry in jobs such as an assistant cook, a prep cook, a line cook and/or a caterer. Students will attend classes for 9 weeks at Durham Continuing Education. During the in-class portion of the course students will:
- Earn 4 credits (with co-op) towards an Ontario Secondary School Diploma
- Prepare for employment in the food service industry
- Learn food preparation skills - safe food handling, kitchen skills and customer service
- Improve their job readiness
- Obtain a professional uniform for their co-op community placement
Students will earn the following certifications:
- First Aid/CPR
- WHMIS Awareness Training
- Smart Serve
- Food Handler

- Upgrade their skills and knowledge in topics such as supply and demand, marketing, managing inventory and more
- Add to their certifications and job readiness skills
- Improve the computer skills required for the workplace

Students will also improve their computer skills as well as their soft skills. Students will attend classes for 18 weeks at Durham Continuing Education. During the in-class portion of the course students will:
- Earn 4 credits towards an Ontario Secondary School Diploma
- Improve their computer skills in Word, Excel, QuickBooks, Power Point, Publisher and OneNote
- Improve their keyboarding and telephone skills
- Receive training on office equipment
- Improve their social media skills
- Upgrade their math and marketing knowledge related to an office environment
- Add to their certifications and job readiness skills
