Certifications and Program Overview

Students will attend classes for 9 weeks at Durham Continuing Education.  During the in-class portion of the course students will:

  • Earn two credits towards an Ontario Secondary School Diploma
  • Prepare for employment in the construction or maintenance industry
  • Learn basic skills in framing, drywalling, mudding and taping, electrical, plumbing and property maintenance
  • Learn the techniques for using hand and power tools and cleaning equipment
  • Upgrade their math skills
  • Improve their job readiness and computer skills

 

Students will earn the following certifications:

  • Fire Extinguisher
  • First Aid/CPR
  • WHMIS Awareness Training
Co-op Opportunity

Eligible students will take part in a 9 week community placement with an experienced person who can provide further training. Students should obtain a criminal background check before starting their cooperative education placement.

Fees

​$475.00 CAD.  The program fee includes the following:

  • Student registration
  • Registration fees for all program certifications
  • $100.00 CAD refundable book deposit

Certifications and Program Overview 

Students will upgrade their skills and knowledge for employment in the hospitality industry in jobs such as an assistant cook, a prep cook, a line cook and/or a caterer.  Students will attend classes for 9 weeks at Durham Continuing Education.  During the in-class portion of the course students will:

  • Earn 4 credits towards an Ontario Secondary School Diploma
  • Prepare for employment in the food service industry
  • Learn food preparation skills - safe food handling, kitchen skills and customer service
  • Improve their job readiness
  • Obtain a professional uniform for their community placement

 

Students will earn the following certifications:

  • First Aid/CPR
  • Food Handler
  • WHMIS Awareness Training

Students will upgrade their skills and knowledge for employment in the logistics and distribution field in preparation for jobs in areas such as inventory management, marketing, transportation and distribution.  Students will attend classes for 9 weeks at Durham Continuing Education.  During the in-class portion of the course students will:

  • Earn 2 credits towards an Ontario Secondary School Diploma
  • Upgrade their skills and knowledge in topics such as supply and demand, marketing, managing inventory and more
  • Add to their certifications and job readiness skills
  • Improve the computer skills required for the workplace

 

Students will earn the following certifications:

  • First Aid/CPR
  • Forklift
  • WHMIS Awareness Training
  • Working at Heights

Eligible students will take part in a 9 week community placement with an experienced person who can provide further training.  Students should obtain a criminal background check prior to commencing their cooperative education placement.

Certifications and Program Overview

Students will upgrade their skills and knowledge for employment in an office environment as a receptionist, a data entry clerk, a filing clerk or a photocopy clerk.  Students will also improve their computer skills as well as their soft skills.  Students will attend classes for 18 weeks at Durham Continuing Education.  During the in-class portion of the course students will:

  • Earn 4 credits towards an Ontario Secondary School Diploma
  • Improve their computer skills in Word, Excel, QuickBooks, Power Point, Publisher and OneNote
  • Improve their keyboarding and telephone skills
  • Receive training on office equipment
  • Improve their social media skills
  • Upgrade their math and marketing knowledge related to an office environment
  • Add to their certifications and job readiness skills

 

Students will earn the following certifications:

  • Dealing with Difficult People
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Personality Dimensions
  • WHMIS Awareness Training
