Personal Support Worker (PSW) Pathway Program

Become a Personal Support Worker in just 5 months! Sessions are full-day programs and begin in September and January. 

  • Do you have a desire to work with the elderly or people with disabilities?
  • Are you interested in supporting people to live independent lives?
  • Have you considered a job in community health or a nursing/retirement home? 

Train to become a Personal Support Worker and be prepared to make a difference! Train under the guidance of RPNs or RNs in the classroom, our practical lab and while on placement in the field.

Provincially recognized by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, this program provides you with the theory and practical training needed to become a Personal Support Worker.

Personal Support Workers contribute to the quality of life of individuals who live in facilities and at home by promoting their independence; dignity; social, emotional, and physical well-being; mobility; personal appearance; comfort and safety.

         Our PSW programs for the 2025/2026 are now full. You are encouraged to return her in the spring of 2026 for information on 2026/2027 sessions.  

 

 

Registration

Registration for the PSW Pathway Program begins with an orientation session.* For those looking to pursue admission, the session will be followed by a literacy assessment and individual interviews will be scheduled. Successful candidates will then be provided with next steps to register.

Program Information

2025/2026 Semester 1 session dates  

     Classes Begin September 2nd  2025 – Jan 28th 2026

  

This condensed schedule allows you to graduate with a full PSW credential, in only five months!  Students in need of high school credit for graduation can earn up to 7 credits through the program.

Classes run daily from 8:30 am -3:30 pm at Durham Continuing Education Oshawa site, located at 120 Centre Street South.

Institutional and Community placements will consist of one or a combination of day, evening, or weekend shifts.

Institutional and community placements: Semester 1 : November 2025 - Jan 2026

                                                                           

 Program Fees

 

The fees for domestic students is $1,300 for the 2025-2026 academic year.

 

Admission Requirements

  • Attend one of the free information sessions.
  • Proof of Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status required at the time of registration (Passport/Landed Immigrant Papers/Canadian Citizenship Card/Permanent Resident Card/One piece of picture identification)
  • Provide a current criminal background check with vulnerable sector screening prior to September(S1) and February (S2).
  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
  • A minimum score of 80% on the literacy assessment
  • Updated vaccination list and medical clearance form.
  • Successful admissions interview.
