Course Information |
This class provides learners an opportunity to prepare for the Canadian citizenship test. Using Discover Canada: The Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship, a study guide written for the citizenship test, students will learn about how the government works, Canada’s symbols and regions and all content necessary to prepare for the citizenship test. A minimum benchmark 4 in both listening and speaking is recommended for this course. All resources will be provided.

Care for children is offered to eligible newcomers at no cost to the client as it is funded by IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada).
While you are studying in your LINC class, professionally trained workers will be supervising your child/children. These are certified child care providers, who have had schooling, background checks and have been trained to provide your children with a positive educational experience. Registered children will enjoy a variety of activities that will benefit their social, physical, and academic skills.

Program Information |
LINC classes offer a broad range of activities to improve the learners’ skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing for everyday living. We offer free, morning, afternoon, and/or evening language instruction classes for eligible adult immigrants. The learner will be introduced to vocabulary needed to practice and perform everyday tasks. English grammar will be taught according to the learner's language benchmarks. Learners will have an opportunity to learn English in the classroom and in the computer lab. Classes are available in both our Oshawa and Pickering locations and have continuous enrolment so you can start any time. Eligible adults may qualify for free child care while attending LINC classes.

Eligibility |
An eligible learner is an adult immigrant (born outside of Canada) currently residing in Ontario:
- Whose first language is not English; and,
- Who is eighteen years old, or an early school leaver,
OR
- has completed his/her high school diploma and is not a day school pupil enrolled in any publicly supported day school in Ontario; and,
- Is one of the following;
- a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, Convention Refugee or a Refugee Claimant; or
- a Provincial Nominee, or their dependent, who has been approved through the Opportunities Ontario: Provincial Nominee Program but has not yet been processed to receive permanent resident status; OR
- a Temporary Foreign Worker, or their dependent, who has been approved through the Canadian Experience Class but has not yet been processed to receive permanent resident status; or
- approved as a Foreign Domestic Worker admitted under the Live-In Caregiver Program.
